Welcome to the MWRC

The Manchester Wesley Research Centre promotes and supports research on the life and work of John and Charles Wesley, their contemporaries in the 18th century Evangelical Revival, their historical and theological antecedents, their successors in the Wesleyan tradition, and contemporary scholarship in the Wesleyan and Evangelical tradition. This includes areas such as theology, history, biblical studies, education, ethics, literature, mission, philosophy, pastoral studies, practical theology, and social theology.

The MWRC is located on the campus of Nazarene Theological College in the Manchester suburb of Didsbury and is affiliated with the Methodist Archives, housed in The University of Manchester John Rylands Library. These research centres provide magnificent resources for students and researchers in this field.

Christine Johnson, B.S. in Christian Ministries (Indiana Wesleyan), M.Div. (Asbury) 'The Theme of Death as it Relates to John Wesley's Theology of Holy Love with Special Reference to the Doctrines of the New Birth and Entire Sanctification'

Christine seeks to explore Wesley's appeals to the realities of both physical and spiritual death in relation to his core theology of holy love specifically in terms of the new birth (real Christianity) and entire sanctification.  She proposes that a proper understanding of Wesley's variegated reflections on death is essential for appreciating fully his theology of holy love, especially in terms of the nature of sanctification (both initial and entire) as well as its actualization in the warp and woof of life.  Christine is working as a full-time student in cooperation with Asbury Theological Seminary.  Her primary Supervisor is Kenneth Collins, with Herbert McGonigle acting as secondary advisor.  Christine currently resides in Wilmore, Kentucky where she works part-time at Asbury Theological Seminary.
