MWRC Annual Lectures
2005: ‘The Current State of Wesley Scholarship.’ Revd Dr Henry D Rack, Bishop Fraser Senior Lecturer in Ecclesiastical History Emeritus in the University of Manchester. This lecture was published under the title ‘Some Recent Trends in Wesley Scholarship’, in the Wesleyan Theological Journal 41.2 (Fall, 2006).
2006: ‘John Wesley: Celebrity and Holy Man.’ Dr John D Walsh, Emeritus Fellow of Jesus College, Oxford.
2007: 'Recovering Charles Wesley's Voice: Achievements, Opportunities and Obstacles.' Dr Kenneth Newport, Professor in Christian Thought, at Liverpool Hope University. This lecture will be published in the Bulletin of the John Rylands University Library of Manchester. A revised version of this lecture given as the 2007 Wesley Historical Society Lecture has been published under the title 'Charles Wesley, "Warts and All": The Evidence of the Prose Works', Proceedings of the Wesley Historical Society 56.4 (2008), 165-88.
2008: 'John Wesley and Jonathan Edwards, with a focus on Wesley's edition of Edwards' The Life of David Brainerd. Isabel Rivers, Research Professor, Queen Mary, University of London and Co-Director of the Dr Williams's Centre for Dissenting Studies.
2009: 'Wesley Agonistes and the Calvinist Sublime: The Spiritual Ideals of the Early English Evangelical School.' Dr Bruce Hindmarsh, James M. Houston Professor of Spiritual Theology at Regent College, Vancouver.
2010: 'A Journey into God: A Wesleyan Theology of Evangelism'. Dr Philip Meadows, Lecturer in Missiology and Wesleyan Studies, Cliff College.
The 2012 MWRC annual lecture will be given by Dr David Ceri Jones, Lecturer in History, Aberystwyth University. Prof. David Bebbington will deliver the 2013 lecture.
MWRC Postgraduate Colloquia
The First Annual MWRC Postgraduate Colloquia in Wesley Studies took place on 20th June and 12th July 2008. Each colloquium featured three papers from doctoral students at MWRC partner institutions. The 12thJuly colloquium closed with a paper from W. R. Ward, emeritus professor of Modern History at the University of Durham. Other Events Hosted by the MWRC
A lecture by Ted Campbell, Associate Professor of Church History at Southern Methodist University, was given on 10 May 2010. The lecture was titled 'John Wesley's Disconnections, 1756-1760'.
16-18 June 2009: 'Religion, gender, and industry: Exploring Church and Methodism in a Local Setting', an international conference co-sponsored by the MWRC.
A lecture by Dr Randy Maddox, Professor of Theology and Wesleyan Studies at Duke Divinity School, was given at Nazarene Theological College on 5 May 2009. The lecture was titled: 'Holistic Salvation: A Widening Theme in Wesley's Theology'.
