Welcome to the MWRC

The Manchester Wesley Research Centre promotes and supports research on the life and work of John and Charles Wesley, their contemporaries in the 18th century Evangelical Revival, their historical and theological antecedents, their successors in the Wesleyan tradition, and contemporary scholarship in the Wesleyan and Evangelical tradition. This includes areas such as theology, history, biblical studies, education, ethics, literature, mission, philosophy, pastoral studies, practical theology, and social theology.

The MWRC is located on the campus of Nazarene Theological College in the Manchester suburb of Didsbury and is affiliated with the Methodist Archives, housed in The University of Manchester John Rylands Library. These research centres provide magnificent resources for students and researchers in this field.

Michael Browder, B.A. and M. Div. (Duke University) 'Acting out Liberty: Seeking Holiness of Heart according to the Theology of John Wesley'

Early in his collegiate studies, Michael served as primary author for a publication in biochemistry, 'The role of low levels of juvenile hormone esterase in the metamorphosis of Manduca Sexta' (Journal of Insect Science, 2001). After transitioning to the humanities in 2001, the primary focus of his research has been in theological and philosophical understandings of the heart. His recent interest has been in the theology of John Wesley, with a special focus on Wesley's view of liberty and the affections. Michael participated in the 'Summer Wesley Seminar' in 2008 at Duke University. He is a licensed minister in the Church of God in Christ, a Pentecostal denomination with Wesleyan roots.
