Randall D. McElwain, M.Th., (South Africa Theological Seminary) ‘Doctrine in the Hymns of Charles Wesley: The 1780 Hymnbook as a Guide to Three Theological Themes of Early Wesleyan Methodism’
In May 2006, Randall began his doctoral research at Nazarene Theological College under the direction of Dr Herbert McGonigle. The argument of his thesis is that the hymns of Charles Wesley reflect agreement with John on the essential elements of the doctrines of the Unlimited Atonement, Assurance, and Christian Perfection. Their greatest areas of difference are in the doctrine of Christian perfection. He has written eight articles for the forthcoming (Blackwell, 2008) ‘Encyclopedia of Christian Civilization’ ed. by George Kurian and has edited the 1749 Hymns and Sacred Poems for a forthcoming online edition of Charles Wesley's Poetical Works. Randall currently teaches Bible and Church Music at Hobe Sound Bible College, a small Wesleyan college in Hobe Sound, Florida.
