Carla D. Sunberg, MTS (Nazarene Theological Seminary), 'The Cappadocian Mothers: Deification Exemplified in the Writings of Basil, Gregory and Gregory' (NTC), 2012. Published under the same title by Pickwick Publications in 2017.

Carla has served as the Director of Theological Education for the Church of the Nazarene in the former Soviet Union, and served as Co-District Superintendent of the East Ohio District for the Church of the Nazarene in the United States. Having spent many years working in the Orthodox world she began to explore the connections between Orthodox theology and her own Wesleyan/Arminian tradition. The resurgence of Christianity in the post-communist world also led to inquiry as to the role of women in church tradition. The result was is a synthesis of the theology of the Cappadocian Fathers and their understanding of Deification, and the role their female relatives played in their lives and in the life and tradition of the church. Her thesis was written under the supervision of Dr Thomas A. Noble. Dr Sunberg was president of Nazarene Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Missouri from 2014-17. She was elected as a General Superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene in June 2017.
