David Bundy, Ph.D. Associate Director, Manchester Wesley Research Centre; Research Professor of World Christian Studies at New York Theological Seminary.
In January 2017 David Bundy became Associate Director of the MWRC. He is in residence in Manchester during the 2016-17 academic year supporting the work of the MWRC and pursuing his research on the early Holiness Movements in the UK.
He is a specialist in Methodist, Holiness, and Pentecostal History, focusing primarily on issues outside of North America as well as on early Asian and East African Christianities. He has extensive international experience, having served as an invited lecturer in 44 countries and having taught graduate-level courses at institutions in 28 countries. He is the author of Keswick (1975, 1983, 2012), Visions of Apostolic Mission (2009) and numerous scholarly articles. He as served as librarian and historian at Asbury Theological Seminary (1986-1991), Christian Theological Seminary (1991-2002) and as Associate Provost for Library and Information Technology and Associate Professor of History at Fuller Theological Seminary (2002-2011). He received his B.A. from Seattle Pacific University, M.Div. and Th.M. from Asbury Theological Seminary, Licentiate in Oriental Philology and History at the Universite Catholique de Louvain, Belgium, and the Ph.D. from Uppsala University.
Dr Bundy has also made extensive contributions to reference works including the Dictionnaire d’histoire et de gegraphie ecclesastiques, Encyclopedia of Early Christianity, Anchor Bible Dictionary, Dictionary of Religion in America, Blackwell’sDictionary of Evangelical Biography, Dictionary of Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements, Mission Legacies, Dictionary of Missionary Biography, International Dictionary of Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements, and Norsk pinsekristendom og karismatisk fornyelse.
He has served on the boards of the European Pentecostal Theological Association, North American Patristic Society, American Theological Library Association, Wesleyan Theological Society, and Electronic Cultural Atlas Initiative, among other corporations and educational institutions.
Dr Bundy was an MWRC Visiting Research Fellow in 2015, researching 'The British Roots of the Korean and Japanese Holiness Churches'. Regarding this experience, he noted, ‘My work on the "Radical Holiness Movement" in Britain and the specific aspect of the roots of the Korean and Japanese Holiness churches has brought me into connections with lots of Holiness groups and ministries of which I had never heard.’ He added, ‘This has been a wonderful place to be! The [Nazarene Theological College] archives for my purposes are wonderful.’
